The Altar

Exodus 27:1-8

The altar stands for the Cross. The people of Israel were strictly forbidden to offer any sacrifice other than on this altar. "ANY SUBSTITUTE FOR CALVARY IS SPIRITUALLY FATAL!"*

The altar was partially made of wood (humanity of Christ) serving as a reminder that Jesus became a human so that he could undergo all the same testings that we do, yet he did not sin.

The altar was five cubits square, showing that God's grace is for everyone. The horns represent power. Jesus' blood is the only thing that has the power to cleanse us from our sins. It is equally accessible to everyone and has the same power for everyone.
