"Make the Tabernacle from ten curtains of finely woven linen. Decorate the curtains with blue, purple, and scarlet thread and with skillfully embroidered cherubim. These ten curtains must be exactly the same size - 28 cubits long, and 4 cubits wide. Join five of these curtains together to make one long curtain, then join the other five into a second long curtain. Put loops of blue yarn along the edge of the last curtain in each set. The fifty loops along the edge of one curtain are to match the fifty loops along the edge of the other curtain. Then make fifty gold clasps and fasten the long curtains together with the clasps. In this way, the Tabernacle will be made of one continuous piece."
The linen curtain is the only one that specifies the fine linen before the colors. Flax, which is grown in the soil, is used to make linen. So what Jesus did for us while he was a human living on the earth is represented in this curtain.
"While we do not try to prove anything by our typological numbers, the recorded facts do present interesting combinations. Some of them surely were more than mere coincidence. We agree that the fine linen was a product of the earth (4), which was the width of each strip, and its quality was perfect (7). Quality (7), times the width (4), equals the length (28) of each strip. Only by grace (5) is righteousness obtained, and five coupled to five (grace upon grace!) equals ten (the number of completeness), ALL BY GOD'S GRACE THROUGH JESUS CHRIST OUR LORD!"*
As if this weren't enough to convince us, there were fifty loops of blue (the Heavenly One) yarn and fifty gold clasps to attach the two pieces together. "Fifty was not an arbitrary number but one for which there is not substitute: 5 X 10 = GRACE COMPLETED."*
It also represents the year of Jubilee. The Year of Jubilee was celebrated every fifty years. That was when the Jews were commanded to set all their captives free and cancel all debts. That is exactly what Jesus did for us on the cross!
Thank you, Jesus, for all the wonderful reminders of what you did for us! Too often I forget to remember that I am no longer a captive. I've been set free and my sin debt has been cancelled! Hallelujah!!
