My kids enjoy writing their own stories. Sometimes they will collaborate on this, but often they will work alone. They have written dozens of chapters, not sure that any of them have ever finished a "book" yet.
I encourage their writing without burdening them with any of the mechanics of grammar or spelling. I figure this stretches their creativity. We can always go to http://www.time4writing.com/ to work on the mechanics. I just want them to have a love for writing as I do.
Who knows? Maybe some day their stories will join the ranks of other famous homeschool authors!

My Young Authors
Dee Trope married her hero (John) in 1993. They homeschool 3 teenagers, Manboy (98), Fashionista (00) and RoboBoy (01). RoboBoy and Dee both have Aspergers Syndrome, also known as High Functioning Autism. Dee is a Jesus Freak who loves to crochet and write. She is also a runner. She runs about 3 miles 3 times a week and has participated in numerous 5K races. Her goal is to increase her distance to 10k and eventually be able to run a half marathon. Dee considers herself to be a “geek in training”. As an Aspie, Dee is generally happy to stay home, but loves keeping in touch with her friends via Facebook and Instant Messaging.
You might find her on Facebook (her favorite social media), G+, Twitter, Pinterest, LinkedIn, or even Youtube! She keeps a personal blog in which she shares from her quiet times. You can find it at http://dee-lightfullmoments.
